Mariners notebook: Ryan Langerhans acquired in trade from Washington Nationals

LOS ANGELES — The Mariners on Sunday acquired outfielder Ryan Langerhans from the Washington Nationals in a trade for Mike Morse.
Langerhans, a left-handed hitter, plays all three outfield positions as well as first base, and all indications are that he will be joining the M's Tuesday in New York.
"This gives us a degree of flexibility," general manager Jack Zduriencik said.
The 6-foot-3, 220-pound Langerhans was hitting .278 with nine home runs and 40 RBI in 64 games for Class AAA Syracuse.
Morse was hitting .312 for AAA Tacoma with 10 homers and 52 RBI in 66 games. Acquired in the Freddy Garcia trade in 2004, he hit .300 in 107 games for Seattle, but he faded out of their plans last year after dislocating his shoulder five games into the season and undergoing season-ending surgery.

• James McOwen, a first baseman for the High Desert Mavericks, the Mariners' High Class A team, went 2 for 6 against Lake Elsinore to extend his hitting streak to a California League-record 36 games. The Storm, a San Diego Padres affiliate, won the game 33-18, with the teams combining for 51 runs and 57 hits.
