4 Detroit (9) Matt Millen advised on draft, which explains the wide receiver in the sixth round
5 Toronto (10) Jays could use one more big bat; how about Holliday to team with Halladay?
6 Texas (5) Where's David Clyde when you really need him?
7 Angels (6) Angels near agreement with No. 1 pick Mike Trout; hope he's another Tim Salmon
8 Colorado (12) Jim Tracy must be taking interim managing tips from Jack McKeon, circa 2003
9 Tampa Bay (13) There's no shame in being fourth-best team in AL East
10 Milwaukee (8) Mitch Stetter doing OK (emphasis on the K): 15 consecutive outs via whiffs
11 San Francisco (11) Too bad Matt didn't blossom in Bonds era; they would have had Cain and Enable
12 St. Louis (7) Dave Duncan starts side business selling rotator cuff links
13 Philadelphia (3) Impressive young lefty J.A. Happ: The initials stand for Jamie's Alter-Ego
14 Mets (14) Mets already preparing to celebrate their annual Sinko de September
15 Minnesota (16) Just think where Twins would be with Jarrod Washburn in their rotation
16 Florida (20) The Ramirez story to savor: Hanley Being Manly
17 Seattle (18) In deference to proposed strip club near Safeco, Mariners to install brass foul poles
18 Cubs (17) Soto had positive marijuana test in WBC; stats always showed he hit better on grass

22 Houston (23) Perennially injured Mike Hampton goes on the 15-day active list
23 Baltimore (25) Orioles doing great in interleague play; it's outerleague play that's killing them
24 Pittsburgh (22) Pirates sign No. 2 pick Brooks Pounders; hope he's a Robinson, not a Kieschnick
25 Kansas City (27) Sidney Ponson tested positive for stimulant; tests negative for major-league fastball
26 Oakland (24) "Moneyball" movie ceases production; for that matter, so do the A's
27 San Diego (26) Adrian Gonzalez's older brother Edgar (.192) is from Ozzie Canseco wing of gene pool
28 Cleveland (28) Expected to be a buyer, but ended up in the cellar
29 Arizona (29) So it turns out Bob Melvin wasn't the problem after all
30 Washington (30) Acta firing delayed by filibuster; president Stan Kasten seeking to invoke cloture

Thumbs up

Akinori Iwamura, Rays: The second baseman was supposed to be out for the season with a torn ACL, but now doctors say it's only partially torn, and Iwamura could return in six to eight weeks.

Thumbs down

Brandon Webb, Diamondbacks: The Arizona ace is facing the prospect of season-ending shoulder surgery. He will seek the opinion of three specialists before making his final decision. Webb hasn't pitched since opening day.

Ex-Mariner of the week

Eric O'Flaherty, Braves: The lefty, who has found a home in Atlanta's bullpen, was ejected last week for questioning a call by plate umpire Bill Hohn. Chipper Jones and Bobby Cox were then thrown out for joining the fray.

Quote

"The fans were calling me by my new nickname: Boo." — Toronto's struggling Vernon Wells, after ending a 160 at-bat homerless streak.
