Comparing Ken Griffey's Numbers: Who would you choose?

Comparing Ken Griffey's numbers

Take a look at the average numbers the past three seasons for four players:

Hard to decide, huh?

• Player A hits for the highest average and has the second-highest on-base-plus-slugging of the group.

• Player B has the best slugging and OPS numbers.

• Player C has the most speed but strikes out a lot and has the lowest OPS.

• Player D has the best on-base percentage and a slight edge in home runs and RBI.

The numbers of the four are similar. Each has averaged between 127 and 137 games, 21 to 25 home runs, 68 to 79 RBI. The highest OPS is .827, the lowest .801. All four play the outfield, although Player B can also play three infield positions.

Would you have been pretty fired up if the Mariners had acquired Xavier Nady (Player A), Ty Wigginton (Player B) or Mike Cameron (Player C) this offseason? Didn't think so. But their numbers the past three years don't look much different from those of Player D — Ken Griffey Jr.
