TACOMA — Jeff Clement homered for the third consecutive game, but it wasn't enough for Tacoma in a 7-4 Pacific Coast League loss to Las Vegas before 3,915 fans at Cheney Stadium on Thursday night.
Clement, who was sent back to the AAA Rainiers by the Mariners on Sunday, was 2 for 5 with a single. The 24-year-old catcher is batting .387 with eight homers for Tacoma.
In the bottom of the ninth, Tug Hulett hit a two-run double and Matt Tuiasosopo singled, bringing the tying run to the plate for Tacoma with no outs. But Clement grounded out, Victor Diaz struck out and Bryan LaHair grounded out, ending the threat.
