We asked readers to choose one Mariner for whom they'd like to wear a campaign button. We made one for each player as part of our special section, "The Great Debate" (March 30) — so that is what the best entry for each will receive. Today's final button request is for: Anyone! And that anyone is Mariners manager John McLaren.
Winner:
My father, Wes Walton, was invited to a Mariners game in late 2007 after being diagnosed with stage 4 cancer and serious lung disease. He is an avid fan, and the Mariners organization graciously made special arrangements to accommodate him. In addition, he was welcomed on both the FanCam and personally by a representative of the Mariners. He was totally surprised and appreciative of these gestures. He is still battling his diseases as a courageous athlete in the game of his life. Like the Mariners, he faces his upcoming season with determination and conviction. He would be proud to represent any Mariner by wearing their button.
