Sacramento scores in 11th, beats Tacoma

TACOMA — Bobby Smith hit a two-run single in the top of the 11th inning last night, giving the Sacramento River Cats a 5-3 win over the Tacoma Rainiers in Pacific Coast League play.

The Rainiers got off to a good start. Abraham Nunez hit a two-run home in the third inning and starter Andrew Lorraine pitched five shutout innings.

However, the River Cats scored a run in the sixth inning on a fielding error. Sacramento then took a 3-2 lead after scoring two runs in the seventh on a Jermaine Clark homer.

The Rainiers tied the score in the bottom of the seventh. Chris Snelling brought home Ramon Santiago on a sacrifice fly.

Jeff Heaverlo (0-1) took the loss for Tacoma (7-8), allowing two runs in 3-1/3 innings of relief. Chris Mabeus (2-2) picked up the win for the River Cats.
