BENTON CITY, Wash. —

A 64-year-old woman suffered burns on her hands in a house fire in Benton City where 12 small dogs died.

The woman was treated for first- and second-degree burns at Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland.

KNDU reports ( http://is.gd/Pt5gnR) the Saturday afternoon fire apparently started in the kitchen.

The woman renting the home had taken in dogs temporarily. Volunteers rescued at least one puppy.
