The avalanche danger is making travel difficult through Snoqualmie and Stevens passes - the two main east-west highway routes through the Washington Cascades.
Both were closed Tuesday evening. The Transportation Department reopened Interstate 90 through Snoqualmie Pass early Wednesday morning and reopened Highway 2 through Stevens Pass later in the morning.
Spokesman Jeff Adamson told KOMO Radio it was the rain on top of snow that brought down avalanches at Stevens Pass.
The National Weather Service forecasts another 11 to 17 inches of snow by Thursday morning in the passes.
