Elwha dam removal work resumes after 'fish window'

PORT ANGELES, Wash. —

Demolition work at the Elwha Dam is resuming Monday, about two weeks earlier than expected.

Work was suspended Nov. 1 for a "fish window" - to prevent sediment from harming the late fall run of chum salmon in the lower Elwha River.

The Peninsula Daily News reports ( http://is.gd/4eWqIy) the Olympic National Park says biologists confirm the salmon run has come to an end.

The Elwha and Glines Canyon dams are being removed in a $325 million project to restore one famous salmon runs to the river. The work will continue into 2014.
