PORT ANGELES, Wash. —

A Port Angeles, Wash., jury has convicted a former Clallam County sheriff's evidence officer of first-degree theft and money laundering.

Staci L. Allison was accused of stealing more than $8,600 from the evidence room when she worked there from 2003 through 2006. Jurors returned their verdict Friday.

The Peninsula Daily News reports ( http://bit.ly/pYPKGS) that as much as $51,000 in cash was found to be missing from the evidence room in November 2006.

The 41-year-old woman who has moved to Montesano told Superior Court jurors she didn't take the money and didn't know who did.

She faces a maximum 10 years in prison at sentencing set for Nov. 17.
