A Saturday afternoon blaze that caused extensive damage to a house in the 700 block of North 46th Street in Seattle began when beauty bark in the yard caught fire, fire officials said.
Seattle Fire Department spokesman Kyle Moore said investigators determined that the blaze, which was reported shortly after 1 p.m., was accidental.
Moore said the fire spread from the bark to the front porch.
The damage was estimated at $75,000, with fire damage to the front of the building and smoke damage throughout, Moore said. There were no injuries, according to fire officials.
One of the displaced residents said the home was rented to five adult males, all of whom are current or former Seattle Pacific University students.
The property owner, Teresa Simon, who was watching firefighters knock the blaze down, said she had been alerted by a neighbor. About the renters, she said, "I'm just glad they're all out."
