DOE official promises Hanford waste will be moved
Deputy Energy Secretary Daniel Poneman says the Hanford nuclear reservation will not be the final resting place for radioactive waste that is turned into glass logs at a treatment plant.

Deputy Energy Secretary Daniel Poneman says the Hanford nuclear reservation will not be the final resting place for radioactive waste that is turned into glass logs at a treatment plant.
During a visit Monday Poneman told KVEW the waste would be moved, regardless of what happens with the rejected disposal site at Yucca Mountain, Nevada.
Poneman spoke to workers building the $12 billion vitrification plant and stressed that safety is the utmost importance.
The plant is being built to process 53 million gallons of hazardous waste now held in underground tanks.
