KIRKLAND, Wash. —

Kirkland is a much larger city Wednesday.

KOMO-TV reports some residents held a new city limits sign unveiling at midnight Tuesday to mark the effect of annexing an area of King County north of Kirkland near Bothell.

Kirkland added about 31,000 people to its population of 48,000.

At 79,000 it's about the size of Kent.
