YAKIMA, Wash. —

Washington state has rescinded a fine against a central Washington dairy that it said had applied liquid manure that resulted in runoff to the Yakima River.

The state Department of Ecology issued a $22,000 fine against DeRuyter Brothers Dairy last year following an investigation. The dairy is located in Outlook, southeast of Yakima.

Agency officials said Thursday they became aware of problems with the investigation during the appeal process and rescinded the fine, effective May 10.

Genny DuRuyter says they are pleased Ecology recognized its mistakes and did the right thing rescinding the penalty.
