RICHLAND, Wash. —

The owner of a Richland restaurant that was damaged in a Thursday morning fire thinks it was started by someone who discarded a cigarette in a planter near the front door.

Flames spread up a column and into the ceiling and roof of the Isla Bonita. The roof collapsed but firefighters prevented the building from burning to the ground.

Owner Greg Garcia told Tri-City Herald he doesn't know when the restaurant might reopen. It's been in business 22 years and has 14 employees.
