VANCOUVER, Wash. —

A Vancouver, Wash., fire official says a woman who called for help from the burning attic of a home has died of her injuries.

Fire Capt. Chris Moen tells The Columbian that 48-year-old Debra Vanderley has died.

Fire crews rushed to the home after the woman called for help late Tuesday morning. Firefighters found flames in the attic. They cut a hole in the roof and pulled the woman free. She was treated by medics at the scene and then taken to a hospital.

The fire was confined to the attic but firefighters say their efforts were hampered by the large number of items stored there.
