The Port of Columbia in southeast Washington is breaking ground Friday on what it expects will be an attraction for tourists interested in natural and organic specialty foods.
The Blue Mountain Station at Dayton will be a place for people to tour processing companies, sample products and buy food at a market. Products could include cheese, spirits or garlic.
The Seattle Daily Journal of Commerce reports the station doesn't have any tenants yet. The first phase of the project is putting roads and utilities and other infrastructure on the 28-acre site.
Port manager Jennie Dickinson expects construction to begin next year on the first of up to 20 buildings.
