Wash. appellate court upholds math curriculum
The Washington Court of Appeals has sided with Seattle school officials on its choice of high school math textbooks.

The Washington Court of Appeals has sided with Seattle school officials on its choice of high school math textbooks.
A group of parents and teachers had sued in King County Superior Court over the "Discovering" series of textbooks. The Seattle School District adopted the series in 2009 as the basic math materials for high schools.
Critics say the method of teaching math does a poor job, especially with minority students who are seeing an achievement gap widen.
The appellate court on Monday affirmed the school board's decision to adopt the textbooks, reversing a lower court ruling. The appellate court says it couldn't find that board members failed to give due and honest consideration to its decision.
Three community members had sued, including University of Washington professor Cliff Mass.
