University of Washington police officers stand watch outside of a Seattle Fire medic unit that was treating an accident victim near the UW boathouse on Monday, after several people were rescued from Lake Washington, apparently after being involved in a collision on their watercraft.
A man and a woman were injured on a 38-foot boat when it got stuck under the Highway 520 floating bridge Monday night.
Seattle Fire Department spokeswoman Sue Stangl said the boat somehow got wedged underneath the bridge, trapping the man below deck.
Crews were able to extricate him, but both he and the woman, who was not trapped below deck, were taken to the University of Washington Medical Center nearby. Both had non-life-threatening injuries, Stangl said.
No one else was in the boat.
A lane of eastbound Highway 520 was closed after the incident.
Washington State Patrol Trooper Julie Startup said the lane would reopen once the boat is cleared from under the bridge.
Seattle Harbor Patrol will investigate the cause of the incident, Stangl said.
