Seattle Times announces more local news partners
In an effort to provide readers with the most comprehensive and up-to-date news from throughout the region, The Seattle Times has forged partnerships with a number of local news Web sites.
In an effort to provide readers with the most comprehensive and up-to-date news from throughout the region, The Seattle Times has forged partnerships with a number of local news Web sites.
Today The Times is expanding its partnerships with the addition of five new websites. That brings the total number of online partners to 39. (See the complete list, along with their latest headlines.)
Partnering with The Times today are:
- Northwest Asian Weekly
Founded in 1982 and family-owned and operated, the award-winning Northwest Asian Weekly is the only weekly English language newspaper reporting on Pan-Asian news in the Pacific Northwest. It has one simple goal, to empower Asian/Pacific Islander communities.
- Northwest Vietnamese News
Northwest Vietnamese News is the oldest and longest-running Vietnamese language news source in the Northwest. They write about social issues, the economy, politics and culture relevant to Vietnamese living in the United States, particularly in Washington state. This February the newspaper celebrated its 2000th issue, which represents 25 years and two generations. See their special anniversary edition here.
- Public Data Ferret
A non-partisan new media and teaching project, Public Data Ferret was founded by Seattle journalist and policy analyst Matt Rosenberg. Ferret digs through public documents like nobody’s business, providing readers with a rich and easily-accessible database of local information.
- Roosiehood: The Roosevelt Neighborhood Blog
The Roosevelt Neighborhood Blog (a.k.a. “Roosiehood”) was founded in 2010 to cover news, activities, events and stories that are relevant to the people of the North Seattle neighborhood. Managing Editor Patty Campbell is a fourth generation Washingtonian and a second generation Roosevelt resident. Passionate about local (and hyperlocal) history, she founded Roosiehood to help capture the past and present-day stories from her neighborhood.
- Seattle Bike Blog
Seattle Bike Blog is pedal-powered news and opinion written by independent journalists and bicyclists working to promote the use of bicycles as transportation and sport. This site was founded in 2010 by editor, writer and bike enthusiast Tom Fucoloro.
The Times' effort to build community-news relationships began in August 2009 with the launch of the Networked Journalism project. In 2010, this project helped The Times win the fourth annual Associated Press Managing Editors' Innovator of the Year award.
By partnering with these quality local sites, the Times can provide its readers with more links to important coverage about both neighborhoods and general interest topics. In return, the partners receive increased traffic and exposure.
