Man killed in wrong-way crash; Interstate 5 closed Friday morning
Man killed in wrong-way crash on Interstate 5 early Friday
One man was killed near Marysville early Friday in a wrong-way crash on Interstate 5 that closed the freeway for hours.
State Trooper Keith Leary said the driver of a car was going northbound in the southbound lanes of the freeway when he crashed head-on into a pickup truck and then struck another vehicle.
Leary said troopers received many calls about the wrong-way driver around 5 a.m. but weren't able to stop him before the crash. Leary said troopers don't know where the man entered the freeway, but reports came from at least a mile from the crash scene.
The wrong-way driver, a 43-year-old man from Everett, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was alone in his car. The driver of the pickup, a man from Marysville, and the driver of the other car, a woman from Stanwood, were taken to Providence Hospital in Everett with non life-threatening injuries.
Troopers are still investigating the accident. The lanes finally reopened around 9 a.m.
