Shoreline Community College to cut positions to absorb budget cut

Shoreline Community College announced Wednesday it will cut an unspecified number of positions to absorb a $1 million cut to the college’s budget.

Shoreline Community College announced Wednesday it will cut an unspecified number of positions to absorb a $1 million cut to the college’s budget.

Shoreline President Lee Lambert said all areas would be cut, including classified employees, faculty and administrators. The announcement was made Wednesday because the college must start the processes required by labor contracts to notify employees.

Last month, Gov. Chris Gregoire announced the state must cut more than $1 billion from the current state budget, which runs through June. Shoreline is one of the first community colleges to announce layoffs, but many, if not most, of the state’s colleges and universities are expected to do likewise.

The number of layoffs will be announced Dec. 10, during an all-campus meeting scheduled for 12:30 p.m.
