A woman was struck and killed by an Amtrak train in the North Beach neighborhood in Seattle just after 2 p.m. Thursday, officials said.

The accident occurred near Northwest Neptune Place and Northwest Blue Ridge Drive, police said.

BNSF Railway investigators arrived on site and found the train on track one had hit the woman, said BNSF spokesman Gus Melonas. The incident was expected to cause delays on both sets of tracks there.

The area was cordoned off and the train was expected to be stopped for several hours while traffic collision investigators were on scene.

No information was immediately available about the identity of the victim, police said.

Melonas said this is the 19th person killed on BNSF property in Washington state this year.
