Chuck Ayers is returning for another six months as executive director the Cascade Bicycle Club, after the board ousted him last week. His role will be to run day-to-day operations and aid the transition to a new director, said an announcement Tuesday. Chances are, he won't dive much into politics this winter.
The club's board had removed Ayers Oct. 4 for what it considered a polarizing tone in political issues, citing Cascade's failure to win a "vulnerable users" law to penalize motorists who hit pedestrians and cyclists. Ayers, who has many backers in the cycling community, believed the board was too afraid of upsetting people.
With more than 13,000 members, Cascade is best known for organizing large group long-distance rides such as the Seattle-to-Portland Bicycle Classic, and often pushes local governments to build more bike routes and lanes.
