WA union member charged in initiative fraud case
King County is charging a Service Employees International Union member with fraud for allegedly forging signatures in the petition drive for Initiative 1098.

SEATTLE —
King County is charging a Service Employees International Union member with fraud for allegedly forging signatures in the petition drive for Initiative 1098.
Investigation records say the union paid 52-year-old Claudia R. McKinney of Burien to gather signatures for I-1098.
The case began in July, when state elections officials said a single signature-gatherer had submitted 20 petition sheets with possibly falsified signatures.
Initiative 1098 would impose a state income tax on wealthier households while cutting state property taxes and some business taxes.
The I-1098 campaign has said it has zero tolerance for fraud.
The alleged fraud represented a small slice of the nearly 25,000 petitions that were submitted.
