Sound Transit OKs money to design station south of Sea-Tac

After a four-week delay, Sound Transit board members voted Thursday to spend $4.6 million in design money in hopes of getting the South 200th Street park-and-ride station done by 2015.
On Aug. 12, the board's capital committee deadlocked 3-3 about the station, two miles south of Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. Some members worried about spending the money before the agency takes a broader look at how to manage a $3.9 billion long-term regional shortfall.
But transit-board member Julia Patterson, a Metropolitan King County Council member from SeaTac, who was gone that day, asked to revote on the proposal, which passed unanimously Thursday.
Already, when the Tukwila International Boulevard park-and-ride is full, travelers overflow into nearby business lots in SeaTac, said SeaTac Councilman Ralph Shape.
