Police catch suspect who took Seattle patrol car

Seattle police have recaptured a burglary suspect who escaped after his first arrest by driving off in a patrol car.

The Associated Press

SEATTLE —

Seattle police have recaptured a burglary suspect who escaped after his first arrest by driving off in a patrol car.

Spokeswoman Renee Witt says officers had identified the 33-year-old man after he was caught with electronics about 2 a.m. Thursday at a break-in at Wing Luke Elementary School in south Seattle.

Witt says officers found him again near his home about 6 a.m. still wearing handcuffs.

He had been cuffed behind his back at the school and placed in the back seat of a patrol car. He managed to maneuver his hands in front of him and then slide through a partition to the front seat of the car while the officer was away for a minute.

The suspect drove off and abandoned the car. No weapons were taken.
