Girl injured in fall from window

A five-year-old girl fell from a second-story window in an apartment north of Lynnwood Sunday, slipping through an opening caused `when the bottom corner of a screen popped out.

A five-year-old girl fell from a second-story window in an apartment north of Lynnwood at about 7 p.m. Sunday, slipping through an opening caused when the bottom corner of a screen popped out.

The girl was taken to Harborview Medical Center with serious injuries. She landed on hard dirt after falling about 15 feet, according to officials from Snohomish County Fire District 1.

The apartment is located in the 14500 block of Admiralty Way.

Leslie Hynes, fire district spokeswoman, said this is the third time this summer that firefighters have been called to assist a young child who had fallen out of a window, and urged parents to exercise caution when the weather is warm and windows are open.

Window screens easily give way under a child's weight, she said.
