Man shoots gun from apartment balcony in Seattle

Four people were detained by Seattle Police after shots were fired from a balcony of an apartment building early Thursday in the 2000 block of East Yesler Way.

Four people were detained by Seattle Police after shots were fired from a balcony of an apartment building early Thursday in the 2000 block of East Yesler Way.

Two men and two women were taken into custody after several shots were fired about 8:30 a.m., according to police spokesman Mark Jamieson.

Police initially thought the shooter had fled into nearby Pratt Park, but apparently neither the shooter nor the other three individuals had left the apartment, said Jamieson. He didn't know which of the four was the shooter. No one was injured.

A family member of one of those inside the apartment helped end the standoff, said Jamieson.

Police are still investigating who fired the gun and why.

Nearby Washington Middle School in Seattle's Central District, went on voluntary lockdown, Jamieson, said, although no students were at the school.
