Union representing about 500 King County employees ratifies pay accord
A union representing about 500 King County employees has ratified an agreement with the county that means no cost-of-living adjustment for workers in 2011.
A union representing about 500 King County employees has ratified an agreement with the county that means no cost-of-living adjustment for workers in 2011.
Sixty-nine percent of Washington State Council of County and City Employees members voted yes, Council 2 President Chris Dugovich said Monday. Dugovich said that while he still expects positions to be eliminated in January because of the county’s budget problems, “We’re trying to make sure they’re minimized as much as possible.”
County Executive Dow Constantine in July froze his own salary and those of about 150 executive-branch appointees for 2011, and asked labor unions to forgo cost-of-living adjustments in the face of a $60 million budget shortfall.
Constantine will meet with leaders of other unions Sept. 13 to explain why he wants to end automatic cost-of-living increases.
