Major local stores say their eggs aren't on recall list

No Albertsons, Safeway, Fred Meyer or QFC stores in Washington carried eggs involved in the voluntary recall of millions of eggs by Wrights Country Egg of Galt, Iowa, according to store representatives.

Consumers can find the plant and Julian dates of recalled products by going to EggSafety.org.

No Albertsons, Safeway, Fred Meyer or QFC stores in Washington carried eggs involved in the voluntary recall of millions of eggs by Wright County Egg of Galt, Iowa, that are linked to a salmonella outbreak, according to store representatives.

The egg-safety office of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said it can't provide the detailed information needed to say where recalled eggs were sold in Washington, but representatives of Albertsons, Safeway, Fred Meyer and QFC said none of the recalled eggs were sold at their stores.

The FDA said consumers should look at their egg cartons to see if their eggs are on the recall list. Consumers can find the plant and Julian dates of recalled products by going to this website: www.eggsafety.org/mediacenter/alerts/73-recall-affected-brands-and-descriptions

According to the FDA, the eggs included in the expanded recall are packaged under the following brand names: Albertsons, Farm Fresh, James Farms, Glenview, Mountain Dairy, Ralph's, Boomsma, Lund, Kemps and Pacific Coast.

The packaging comes in varying sizes: 6-egg cartons, dozen egg cartons, 18-egg cartons, and loose eggs for institutional use and repackaging. The packages have "Julian dates" ranging from 136 to 229 and plant numbers 1720 and 1942.

Dates and codes are stamped on the end of the egg carton or printed on the case label. The plant number begins with the letter P and then the number. The Julian date follows the plant number, for example: P-1720 223.

The eggs included under the earlier recall of Aug. 13, 2010, are packaged under the following brand names: Lucerne, Albertson, Mountain Dairy, Ralph's, Boomsma's, Sunshine, Hillandale, Trafficanda, Farm Fresh, Shoreland, Lund, Dutch Farms and Kemps. These eggs are in packages with Julian dates ranging from 136 to 225 and plant numbers 1026, 1413 and 1946.

Donn Moyer, spokesman with the state Department of Health, said consumers should look to verify if their brand of eggs are on the recall list and match the plant and Julian dates. If they're unsure, don't use them.
