Feds seek fund of former Pierce County broker

The U.S. Attorneys Office is seeking to seize a bag filled with $102,000 kept by a former Pierce County mortgage broker who was unlicensed.

Although no criminal charges have been filed, the Tacoma News Tribune reports that federal prosecutors filed a motion July 30 saying the money was the product of a scheme by Shawn Portmann that involved “falsifying borrowers’ income and forging or doctoring supporting documents.”

Portmann once touted himself as one of the top loan officers in the region, but last September he was ordered by the state Department of Financial Institutions to cease engaging in the mortgage-broker business.
