Record high temperature in Seattle Saturday
The mercury hit 95 degrees at 5 p.m. Saturday at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, the highest temperature ever for Aug. 14. The previous record for that date was 90, two years ago, according to the National Weather Service.
Remember Seattle's cool, gray summer? It ended with a vengeance Saturday.
And it's only August.
The mercury hit 95 degrees at 5 p.m. Saturday at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, the highest temperature ever for Aug. 14. The previous record for that date was 90, two years ago, according to the National Weather Service.
Record highs also were set Saturday at Seattle's Sand Point, Olympia, Bellingham, Hoquiam and Quillayute, said Weather Service meteorologist Johnny Burg.
Expect the heat to last at least two more days, with another record at Sea-Tac possible Sunday, Burg said. The all-time high for Aug. 15 is 92, set in 1967.
Temperatures should reach the low 90s again Monday, Burg said, but a record is less likely. To set one, the high would have to top 98, also recorded in 1967.
Temperatures should start to drop Tuesday, the Weather Service forecasts.
But before the heat wave breaks, air pollution Sunday and Monday in the Cascade foothills of King and Pierce counties should hit levels considered unhealthy for people sensitive to air pollution, the Puget Sound Clean Air Agency says on its website.
