OLYMPIA, Wash. —

Gov. Chris Gregoire ordered flags at all Washington state buildings to be flown at half-staff Thursday in memory of Navy sailor Jarod Newlove of Renton who was killed in Afghanistan.

The 25-year-old and another sailor were killed July 23 while driving alone nearly 60 miles from their base in territory controlled by the Taliban.

A candlelight vigil was held Tuesday night for Newlove at a Chief Sealth High School in West Seattle where he was remembered for playing sports.
