Gunshots fired in Pioneer Square early Saturday

Seattle police say that gunshots were fired in Pioneer Square early Saturday morning after residents yelled at noisy pedestrians to be quiet. Nobody was hurt.

Police were in the neighborhood for bar-closing hours when they heard gunshots coming from First Avenue South and South Main Street. Witnesses told officers that the gunfire came from a turquoise Sport-utility vehicle that had just driven away, according to police.

The shots were fired around 2 a.m. after residents of a nearby building complained that the people in the SUV were being too loud. After yelling at the vehicle, the residents threw water on two people connected with the vehicle, police said.

The people with the SUV responded by pulling out a gun and firing into the air, police said. Officers said that is it is unclear whether the shots were directed at the residents or just into the air.

Police later found the SUV outside a sandwich shop at Fourth Avenue South and South Lander Street and made arrests. Officers found a 9 millimeter pistol in the vehicle.

The Seattle Police Department Gang Unit is investigating.
