Some changes you'll see in the comics pages

More than 15,000 readers responded to The Seattle Times' comics survey. Here is some information about the results — and some changes that we're making.

You spoke. We listened.

This spring, more than 15,000 of you responded to The Seattle Times' survey on comics and puzzles. Many of you filled out the printed questionnaire, which was attached to the Sunday comics on March 28. Even more answered numerous questions on seattletimes.com.

Your enthusiastic responses tell us that you value this part of the newspaper and seattletimes.com. We want to offer a variety of comics and puzzles, including those you've counted on for years as well as newer features. Starting Aug. 1, you'll see some changes that are a result of your feedback. Candorville, which has been running weekdays online and in print for several years, will now appear on Sundays, as well. We're also adding a second trial position in the newspaper on weekdays. The Knight Life will appear there, starting Monday. It joins Tundra, which occupies the other test spot. Please let us know what you think of both strips.

To make room for these comics changes, we will no longer carry 9 Chickweed Lane.

Your responses informed these changes, and you'll see a few more in the coming months.

Some information about the survey: The number of men and women who responded was just about equal. Responses came from people of all ages, from children to folks who are 80-plus. While many read comics and play games online, most turn to the newspaper for these features.

We found that people of all ages loved Fox Trot, Pearls Before Swine, Zits, Dilbert, Baby Blues and Luann. Comics like Garfield, Sherman's Lagoon and Family Circus are popular with the youngest and oldest respondents. And that The New York Times Crossword, Super Quiz and Sudoku are among readers' favorite puzzles.

The comics and puzzles that appear in The Times and on seattletimes.com are as diverse as our readership. We will continue to strive to keep the mix engaging and interesting. Thank you for your responses and please keep your thoughts coming to us at timescomics@seattletimes.com.
