Olympia food co-op boycotting products from Israel

The Olympia Food Co-op says it has received hundreds of phone calls and e-mails from all over the world since the board decided last week to boycott products from Israel.

The Associated Press

OLYMPIA, Wash. —

The Olympia Food Co-op says it has received hundreds of phone calls and e-mails from all over the world since the board decided last week to boycott products from Israel.

The boycott aims to compel Israel to respect Palestinian rights.

Co-op spokesman Harry Levine told The Olympian that Israeli-made gluten-free crackers, ice cream cones and a moisturizing cream have been removed from its two stores in Olympia. The co-op has more than 15,000 members.

Levine says most of the comments about the boycott have been positive.

The co-op has also boycotted products from Norway and China to demonstrate objections to whaling and human rights violations.
