Woman attacked by dog on Beacon Hill

A 65-year-old woman was attacked by a pit bull Saturday morning when she went to check on a Beacon Hill rental unit owned by her daughter, police said.

A 65-year-old woman was attacked by a pit bull Saturday morning when she went to check on a Beacon Hill rental unit owned by her daughter, police said.

When the woman went into the apartment about 11 a.m., a dog inside immediately attacked her, biting her several times, police said.

The woman's sister, who was with her, managed to fend off the dog using her purse, but the dog pursued the two women outside and bit the victim several more times, said Jeff Kappel, a spokesman for the Seattle Police Department.

The dog returned to the house after its second attack, and police officers responding to a 911 call corralled it in the house until it could be taken by animal control.

The woman was taken to Harborview Medical Center to be treated for injuries which were not life-threatening. Her sister was not injured in the attack.

The rental united is located in the 1900 block of 14th Avenue South.
