Incense started fire at Seattle Buddhist temple

Investigators determined that a three-alarm fire early Thursday at a Buddhist temple in Seattle was started accidentally by burning incense.

The Associated Press

SEATTLE —

Investigators determined that a three-alarm fire early Thursday at a Buddhist temple in Seattle was started accidentally by burning incense.

Spokeswoman Dana Vander Houwen (HOW'-en) said damage is estimated at $400,000 to the International District building that housed the temple on the first floor and apartments on the second and third floors.

Firefighters rescued one woman from the second floor. She was not injured. Two people were taken to hospital with minor injuries - smoke inhalation and back pain.

The Red Cross is helping about 17 of the displaced residents and others found places to stay on their own.
