Randal Nelson | 'Never make fun of or be disrespectful' to the flag

When you're the driver and guide for one of those Ride the Ducks "party on wheels" tours, a little pizazz doesn't hurt.

A couple of years ago, Randal Nelson, 50, of Covington, was working as a carpenter and in construction.

Then the economy tanked, he got a job for a while in sales, and then found his calling as a Ducks driver. He goes by "Captain Clem Chowder."

He ran across a costume shop in Redmond that was selling hats with the American flag motif. In this case, a little pizazz cost about $8.

Nelson said he would "never make fun of or be disrespectful" to the flag. He said he loves his country.

And flying the flag never hurts business, as numerous car dealers flying those humongous flags have found out.

"People love it," Nelson said about his gimmick, a cheap investment to make customers happy.
