Tuesday meeting to focus on Metro's electric buses
King County Metro Transit officials say 159 of its electric trolley buses are reaching the end of their useful lives due to age, and the agency is studying ordering replacement buses before the end of 2012. The agency will hold a public open house 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at Plymouth Congregational Church, 1217 Sixth Ave., in downtown Seattle, to begin the evaluation process and focus on Metro's 14-route trolley system.
King County Metro Transit officials say 159 of its electric trolley buses are reaching the end of their useful lives due to age, and the agency is studying ordering replacement buses before the end of 2012.
The agency has been directed by King County Executive Dow Constantine and the Metropolitan King County Council to study other propulsion technologies besides electric trolleys to compare costs, limitations and benefits.
The goal is to evaluate several factors to ensure the best overall value for the region, said Metro spokeswoman Linda Thielke.
Metro Transit will hold a public open house 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at Plymouth Congregational Church, 1217 Sixth Ave., in downtown Seattle, to begin the evaluation process and focus on Metro's 14-route trolley system. Metro staff will be on hand to offer information about the scope of the study and to answer questions.
