Get ready to pay an additional $4.20 a month for sewer service next year.

Get ready to pay an additional $4.20 a month for sewer service next year.

The Metropolitan King County Council voted this week to raise its wholesale rate for sewage treatment from $31.90 per household per month to $36.10 on Jan. 1, 2011. The rate will remain in effect for two years.

County Executive Dow Constantine had proposed the rate to increase to $35.15 for one year, followed by an estimated increase to $38.25 in 2012.

The monthly capacity charge to homes newly connected to the system will rise from $49.07 to $50.45 next year. Rates are rising rapidly to pay for capital improvements, including the $1.8 billion Brightwater sewage treatment plant.
