Almost 100 people were sickened by a viral outbreak on a cruise ship that returned to Seattle on Sunday from a seven-day Alaska trip, according to a report from KING-TV.

Julie Benson, a Princess Cruises spokeswoman, told KING-TV it was an outbreak of norovirus, a contagious gastrointestinal virus that can cause vomiting and diarrhea.

She confirmed 96 passengers on board asked for medical attention. Crew members asked sick passengers to stay in their rooms. The crew also took sanitary precautions.
