SEATTLE —

The Transportation Department is starting work Monday on a 9-foot-tall suicide fence on the Aurora Bridge in Seattle.

Work on the $4.6 million project was to have started last month but was delayed by equipment problems.

Since the bridge opened in 1932, at least 230 people have jumped from the span, which carries Aurora Avenue 167 feet over Lake Union.
