South Park Bridge nears the end of its span

News crews got a tour of the motor house of the soon-to-be-closed South Park Bridge on Wednesday.

News crews got a tour of the motor house of the soon-to-be-closed South Park Bridge on Wednesday. Meanwhile, King County Executive Dow Constantine is in Washington, D.C., this week pushing for federal funds to build a new bridge. The county has applied for Tiger II grants, which will be announced in September. Plans are to tear down the 80-year-old bridge, which is just west of Boeing Field, after it is closes June 30. HNTB, a consulting company hired by King County to assess the bridge, released its opinion this week that the bridge is beyond repair. If the county does manage to put together the $130 million needed to replace the bridge, it is estimated construction would take more than two years.
