Traveling Seattle parks superintendent resigns

Seattle Parks and Recreation Superintendent Tim Gallagher, who has been criticized for his travel expenses, resigned after returning from a trip to Australia.

The Associated Press

SEATTLE —

Seattle Parks and Recreation Superintendent Tim Gallagher, who has been criticized for his travel expenses, resigned after returning from a trip to Australia.

Mayor Mike McGinn accepted the resignation Monday during a meeting.

KOMO News reports Gallagher told parks employees he decided to remove himself from the center of the discussion to return the focus to the long-term financial stability of the department.

KOMO reported Gallagher spent most of the month of March out of the office and traveling to Washington, D.C., Atlanta and Palm Springs.
