Fire at Kenmore Junior High school called arson
Arson was the cause of a fire at Kenmore Junior High School early Monday morning, according to the Northshore Fire Department.
Arson was the cause of a fire at Kenmore Junior High School early Monday morning, according to the Northshore Fire Department.
The fire was reported about 5 a.m. at the school at 20323 66th Ave. N.E.
The Northshore Fire Department responded and found a walkway canopy ablaze. Firefighters extinguished the flames, preventing them from spreading to the gymnasium.
"The covered walkway, located in a courtyard, cannot be seen from the street so it's fortunate that the fire was discovered by the school janitor in its early stage," said Terri Jones, spokeswoman for the Northshore Fire Department.
Damage was estimated at $10,000.
Despite the fire, Kenmore Junior High opened on schedule Monday morning.
Fire officials said anyone who has information about the fire should call the arson hotline or Fire Marshal Jeff LaFlam at the Northshore Fire Department at 425-486-2784.
