The Associated Press
Gov. Chris Gregoire has signed a multimillion-dollar revenue package that increases taxes on bottled water, soda, candy and mass-produced beer.
The tax package approved Friday was passed by lawmakers at the end of the overtime legislative session last week.
The biggest chunk is a temporary tax increase for service businesses, such as attorneys and real estate agents.
Also temporary are the major-brand beer tax, worth about 28 cents on each six-pack; an additional 2 cents on every 12 ounces of soda pop; and extension of the sales tax to bottled water.
Candy and gum will be permanently subject to the state sales tax. Gregoire also signed a separate bill that raises the per-pack tax on cigarettes by $1.
