A man was killed in an early morning accident Monday on Interstate 5 near Everett.

According to Brandon Lee with the Washington State Patrol, a pickup was southbound on I-5 about 2:40 a.m. when it drifted to the right shoulder and struck an abandonded flatbed truck.

The male passenger in the truck, from Snohomish County, died at the scene. The driver, a 21-year-old also from Snohomish County, was taken to a local hospital, released and booked in the Snohomish County Jail in connection with a possible charge of vehicular homicide.

The accident closed the southbound lanes of I-5 for about four hours. Troopers said opened and unopened bottles of beer were found in the truck.
