A 42-year-old Lakewood man is in police custody after fatally shooting his wife just before 6 p.m. Wednesday at Calvary Lutheran Church in the 2400 block of South 320th Street in Federal Way.

A 42-year-old Lakewood man is in police custody after fatally shooting his wife just before 6 p.m. Wednesday at Calvary Lutheran Church in the 2400 block of South 320th Street in Federal Way.

Federal Way Police spokesman Raymond Bunk said the 38-year-old victim, also a Lakewood, Pierce County, resident, died after being taken to Seattle's Harborview Medical Center.

Her identity was not immediately released. Bunk said the two were at the church for a counseling session, but he did not know whether the shooting was before, during or after the session. The man fired a handgun several times at the victim, he said.

Police were conducting an investigation at the scene, Bunk said.
